Artist: Alicia Keys

Album Title: The Element of Freedom (R&B)

7/10

I have never left an Alicia Keys album running from top to end before and I must agree that she is definitely R&B’s pride and joy. The first time took me on an intimate journey and I enjoyed her soulful voice, virtuoso piano abilities and songwriting. If its soul music that you love or just simply want to escape from the outside world, keep her 4th studio album, The Element of Freedom runnin’ and you’ll find yourself lifted and afloat in the air. I really dig “Love is Blind”, with the 808 beats and Funk. A few tracks that include “That’s How Strong My Love Is” and “Distance and Time” sound like a romantic dinner, and “Love Is A Disease” makes it clear that she still has the right ingredients to hit those notes. If you think that chorus bit off Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” was good, wait till you listen to the Pt. 2 full version called “Broken Down”. It sounds a lot better without Jay and after listening to this piece, you’d wish that Keys did a song for your city as well. The song is just so beautiful, just pianos and her vocals does the magic. The Element of Freedom is as intimate and beautiful as R&B gets. Love it!
