Greg Heffley played by Zachary Gordon
After watching the trailers for "Diary of a Wimpy Kid", I kind of hated to admit to myself that the movie looked sort of good. I admit, I've never read the book series, but I've read good things about them. Being a grown up, I felt a bit out of place being it a movie for the kids when I went for the screening at GSC 1Borneo. To my surprise however, the movie was good. It's been a long time since they've made something like this.

Zachary Gordon (left) and Rowley Jefferson played by Robert Capron
The movie is about Greg Heffley and his daily happenings. The movie does not involve high schoolers, but instead it takes a look at the hazardous, chaotic first year of middle school, where kids like Greg, our protagonist, who lives a life just like any other middle schoolers only with karma hitting the back of his head everytime he wants to up the popularity chain. This makes the movie somewhat refreshing as it does not focus on crushes and cliches but on friendship and the human desire to conform. Greg tries his best to go up the ladder but with every attempt, he either fails or simply manages to make the his best friend Rowley climb up the social ladder. Karma has spoken.
The cast is solid. As Greg, Zachary Gordon is the most impressive as he portrays the protagonist with a combination of selfishness, (attempted) swagger, confusion and the determined spirit of any real-life kid his age, plus he can really sing. Despite his smartly thought of but silly actions, Greg is immediately likable. Rowley, who is layed by Robert Capron is your typical fat kid with a small brain but big heart. Easily acceptable as well.

Greg and Rowley tries wrestling thinking it was going to be like the WWE wrestling
The film is kid/pre-teen friendly, so moms and dads, it's an OKAY movie for the younglings. An intellectual presentation of how your normal, typical middle schoolers are.. This film is entertaining enough for everyone to enjoy on some level. I give it a 2.5/5 stars.
