It was 1:30pm on a scorching day, I sat right outside right next to the waters needing a glass of cold drink. The waiter suggested a cold MANGO LASSIE, supposedly to be their best drink off their menu. He came back and there it was, a yellow substance that smelt really good. Took a sip and the smoothie was like heaven on the taste buds. As I went through the menu, I saw a few good appetizers to start the lunch off, but somehow, I went for the CABIATTA MUSHROOMS. When the server eases the rectangular plate down on the wooden table, here we go, I think, biting into those shredded truffles together with the soft French bread slice and melted cheese, yum!

Why should anyone choose Toscani’s for their tummy indulgence? Easy, they serve fresh seafood and produce bought daily. Yups, the head chef for the restaurant single handedly picks fresh seafood and produce early in the morning at the local market, and the freshness of their food is proven when I tasted the SPAGHETTI ALIO-OLIO SEAFOOD which is a garlic oil based pasta sautéed with prawns, squid, New Zealand mussel and crab meat.

Next up on our list of trying was the BAKED GARLIC PESTO OYSTER. Succulent and juicy, a combination of garlic, cheese and oyster, this item was very addictive. I just couldn’t stop eating all six of them.

After those 3 dishes, I thought it was all I could take. Fortunately, I skipped dinner the night before and breakfast for what was to come next. It was defnitely worth it. With mushrooms and all the seafood I had so far, I just had to taste the RACK OF LAMBS. As the server eases the rectangular plate down on the wooden table, here we go, I think, biting into a tiny portion of the medium cooked meat.

A trace of pepper sauce and the melting tender lamb: heaven. It was deinitely one of the best I have tasted so far in Kota Kinabalu.

It was 2:30pm and as the manager came up to check up on me, he suggested that if I still had the space, I should try their Pepperoni Pizza. So I looked down staring at my belly and it told me to go for it. Who could resist such a temptation, so I went for it. Definitely no fast food recipe here. The sliced capsicum, the smooth tomato paste, the melting cheese, the thin crust together with the pepperoni, packs a powerful punch. This would go so well if one was to be watching a football match.

As my Mango Lassie runs dry from its tall glass, I got myself another cold one. Came the HONEY MINT LEMON TEA. Between sips of its unique taste, a dessert was a must. It is said that Toscani’s TIRAMISU CAKE is a must try at the restaurant, and so I did.

I gazed and watched tourists passing by whilst endulging on argubly the best Tiramisu in town, I asked myself, where were the locals? How come they weren’t around? Perhaps it was the time (it was 3pm then) or perhaps it’s just a perception by our own people that Toscani’s was a high end restaurant with expensive food. It is far from that. A spaghetti at Toscani’s would cost about RM16 and elsewhere in town at RM20 or more, that’s a bargain really - and with the quality one can get, Toscani’s is on top of my dining place list.
